Rachel Abbott launched her first novel Only the Innocent in November 2011. The book was self-published through the Kindle Direct Publishing programme on Amazon, and reached the number 1 spot in the Kindle store just over three months later. It held its position for four weeks, and was the second highest selling self-published title in 2012.
Only the Innocent also reached the number 1 spot in the Waterstones ebook charts, where it was the second highest selling ebook of 2012 - pipped at the post by Fifty Shades of Grey, and hit the top spot in the US Kindle chart in August 2012.
Since then, Rachel has gone on to produce another seven books in the Tom Douglas series (and one novella). All books have gone on to be best sellers in the Amazon chart and have now sold 4 million copies.
In 2018, Rachel wrote the first of a new series of books, this time based in Cornwall. And So It Begins was acquired by Headline after a fiercely contested five way auction and was top of the Amazon weekly charts for two weeks in succession. Hailed by The Times as one of the best crime novels of 2018, it introduces readers to a new police officer - Sergeant Stephanie King.
Rachel Abbott's books have now been translated into over 20 languages.
Rachel Abbott is the epublishing sensation of 2012.

The Back Road
One girl is fighting for her life in hospital. One village is struggling to hold tight to its secrets.
When a young girl is knocked over and left for dead at the side of the road, the small community of Little Melham goes into shock. Why was Abbie out so late at night, and why wasn’t she missed?
For Ellie Saunders, the truth about that night could put her marriage and even the safety of her children in jeopardy. She has to protect her family, no matter what the consequences.
Former DCI Tom Douglas thought that Little Melham would offer a peaceful retreat from the daily trauma of his work for the Met. But as he is drawn into the web of deceit, his every instinct tells him that what happened to Abbie was more than a tragic accident.
Only one person knows the whole story – why Abbie was out that night, and who was driving the car. For that person, the accident spells disaster, and somebody has to pay.

Kindle Book Review
Puts Rachel Abbott right at the top of the list with the very best established crime writer.
The story is an exciting and complex one, where past and present echo and reflect one another. Here and there a mis-direct made me feel I knew what was happening but in a Rachel Abbott story there's more there than immediately obvious. This is a tightly written psychological thriller, very nicely paced, and I enjoyed it very much.
Amazon top 500 reviewer
Rachel Abbott's Only the Innocent is not your average "who dunnit" murder mystery. The question that drives this thriller is not "who" did it, but "why". Abbott carefully constructed a world of mystery, depravity, sex, violence, manipulation and intrigue on so many different levels that I can honestly say you truly have to read until the last page to understand and appreciate the complexity of the story.
